I got my first QSL card in the mail the other day!
Well, it was sitting in the mail for a few weeks but hadn’t checked my PO Box since I haven’t been going into work lately.
KB7AK sent me my very first QSL card, which was very nice of him. He is my very first contact on FT8 using WSJT-X.
Naturally, as soon I realized what it was, panic was induced. I don’t have a QSL card to send back. What will I do?
Over the next few days, I tried to create one. Once at RadioQTH.com which was down at the time and then I broke down and designed my own in Pixelmator.
Of course, when we had our QSO, I was KF0BBY, a General class. So I had to basically put my old call sign on there. But at least now I have some QSL cards! Thanks for kicking me in the butt and making me make one, KB7AK!
I used Hammermill 100lb Cardstock paper 100 count (about $20 on amazon). It’s thick and heavy and my color laser printer kinda works right with it. I can get about 4 cards on 1 sheet of cardstock at the usual 3.5 x 5.5 inches card that will fit into any envelope to mail. Its slightly smaller than that size but enough to do the job. I print the RST report on the back of the cards as well. Then I use Kristi’s paper cutter thingy to slice them into 4 cards.
My plan is to change the photo whenever I want. I take so many I shouldn’t have a problem picking one out when I print a new batch of 4!
I should really start sending them. Its not required but a nice surprise which is one of the few positive things about being able to look up a call-sign’s address.
