Old Call Sign Winlink Weirdness

Up until November 31, I was KF0BBY. That was the call sign I was assigned when I got my Technician license. When I got my General a month after I got my Technician, I kept my call sign and didn’t apply for a vanity because I wanted to use it as motivation to get my Extra.

When I got on HF, I set up a lot of accounts since a whole new world was opened to me on HF. This included Winlink and other things I didn’t really know about or didn’tknow I wanted to use or not.

When I got my Extra a month after my General, I applied for a vanity call sign even though I became to like (and remember KF0BBY). 1 think I didn’t like about KF0BBY was the doubled letter. This has been confusing because some people think you’re repeating it for clarity.

On Nov 13 I got my vanity call sign AE0RS which I applied for. I got lucky with the prefix – AE for “Amateur Extra” 0 for my region and then my initials, like a lot of other people. This is actually an “Advanced” call sign but 1×2 and 2×1 were impossible to wade my way through on some websites so I gave up. Plus this one is actually personal to me.

Anyway, Winter Field Day came and went this weekend and one of the things I didn’t do is use WinLink. Now that I’m re-learning WinLink, I logged in with my old call sign and it let me! It also let me check my email and I notice I (well, KF0BBY) have a lot of email in there. Mostly retransmissions and some spam. I’m not sure what to do with it. None if it seems personally addressed to me.

kf0bby is alive on winlink apparently

update: I’m a dummy load. This isn’t kf0bby’s email. This is the US Amateur Radio Message Viewer which is EVERYBODY’S email! I thought I clicked “My Webmail” <and ignored the message on the next screen>. Oh body.

OK my ae0rs winlink should be working. Email away, fellow hams!

73,

ae0rs
